I noticed when installing my 2 ign. coils--- I have the shoved inward to the max and there is still a slight interference on the flywheel. Got to looking at the outboard shoe sections on one of the and I notice that the registration of the laminated layers is slewed a little bit out at the bottom. That is the ends of the laminates are not even. So it looks like I will have to Dremel the end a little to square it up. I hope that doesn't do anything magneticly to it--- Want to make sure the tiny
grains of steel I take off don't go back in and stick to the core. have to wrap it in foil or something. Anyone else noticed this ? You just KNOW these are made in china ……..

The problem of poor fit and incorrect arc is notorious. But this is the first time I've heard about the "slew". They just keep betting better, don't they? (not)

The coils need to be set in place.-----Magneto plate MUST be off the motor when installing the coils.----Plug wires screw into the coils before coils are set in place.

on the ones I installed (maybe 8) I never had to chisel grind any chineese coils… all worked fine
unless the faces are really bad you may want to enlarge a mounting hole rather than mess with the coil faces

GM- the core is made up of laminated sheet metal-- a stack. the stack is supposed to be lined up perfectly so the lateral faces formed by the stack are perfectly vertical and square. When this one was made the lowest layer in the stack is slipped
outward so it touches the flywheel and the middle and upper ones don't. Its like the stack slid sideways a little before the layers were riveted together. So that makes a high spot that drags on the flywheel. If I had noticed that before I mounted it I could have given it a light pass on the belt sander. If dremeling the high spot doesn't do it I will try working the holes out a bit. trying NOT to have to take the whole rig apart again...… :)

Racer-- yes-- did all that ---had every part apart to clean and de-grease. Looks like new now. (new Chinese :) )
