That's one statistic you can have! The less boats I see on the lake, the more enjoyment I get!

interesting that the colder states far outweigh the warmer ones for boat ownership (per capita) (my state, ND, holding at #5!)

What's really interesting... Hawaii, the only state completely surrounded by water is at the bottom of the list! Something does not seem right about that.

Always been Florida on total. Appears Minnesota per capita . . .

Pennsylvania has 350,000 registered boats and a population of about 12,500,000. That works out to about 1 boat for every 35 residents.

I did some research on boat ownership in Pennsylvania some years back and the numbers were interesting. Allegheny county where Pittsburgh is located had the most boats registered. Forest county with a population of 7,700 had the most boats per capita with about 1 boat per 11 people. Forest county has almost 75% of it's homes as vacation or second homes.

Forest county at one time seemed to have more divorces per year than residents. I found out that the filing fees for a no fault divorce were almost nothing and the lawyers from Allegheny county were sending their paperwork with runners to have it filed in their court house.

As always whenever you see a statistic it pays do some background infromation checking to see why some results seem to be way out of line.

Florida has tons of retired people that shouldn't go near a boat. Hell, they can barely drive a car.

I have the Boating Industry issue with all of the stats. I'll look at it when I get home. I could swear it was 1. Florida, 2. Texas, 3. Louisiana

I'll post whatever I find.

Economics. I bet it would be very pricey to ship a boat there; fuel is very expensive. I doubt there are many storage lots available, the land is far more valuable for other uses.

Michigan had the most registered boats for many years since so many people from other states have cottages here.

Florida passed us after we eclipsed the 1,000,000 mark in 2002 I believe.

SC (#3) has plenty. How many are seaworthy is a good question. A lot are sitting in yards, sitting in marinas unused. Still plenty here between the ocean, rivers, and big lakes.
