Does anyone have any experience or opinion on these types of water heaters. We are currently using a tankless coil in our oil boiler. with 2 kids and the price of oil I am looking at options for heating our domestic hot water. I do not have any experience with this type of water heater and they are quite expensive, so I am looking for opioions.

Thanks
Bruce

Re: Heat pump water heaters

We just went to a meeting about these. We are a heating and air conditioning company in North East Tennessee and were told that starting in 2015 any electric water heater above 55 gallons will have to be a heat pump type. The technology is pretty straight forward, and has actually been around for 10 years or so. From all the research we've done the G.E. brand seems to be pretty good. I am not a big fan of G.E. per say, but the others on the market have a lot less going for them. The majority are much heavier, and have plumbing hookups on the side of the tank. G.E.'s plumbing connections are on top of the tank, and they are the only one that can be laid down for transport and then stood back up for installation. If your looking for efficiency I would probably go with the heat pump water heater as they are somewhere around 250% efficient. Or something like that. Just my two cents!:)
