I;ve recently purchase a donor motor for my 1960 johnson 40hp with heated automatic choke
The donor is a 1960 evinrude lark II 40hp, with electric choke.
I'd like to hear some feedback on this as im wondering if i should switch out the carburetors and use the electric choke.
There are drawback i see to both with the heated choke im not sure how well the heated chokes function in the low degree weather i experience here in missouri while hunting. The electric choke would obviously be a little more expensive to replace if ever it fails, plus im going to need to run additional wiring and a switch to my motor to use it. My Johnson is a tiller motor and i joy in the fact that i can just slap it on, hook up the battery cables and go

opinions?

Re: heated choke over electric choke

I had one of those water heated chokes in the early 70s. It was already rusted into useless. Since you have a tiller, open the hatch and use the manual choke. You only need to choke it 1/day for cold startup.

Agree +1. Save yourself the work of changing it over.
