Hello,
My goal is to heat the cabin of my boat while trolling (fishing using a kicker) WITHOUT running my main engines and without a diesel furnace or alcohol stove. Our fishing trips are generally 4-6 hr.

System:
(2) 4d Batteries (parallel config) [have these]
Honda 9.9 Trolling engine running continuous (operates at ~ 2500rpm) [have this]
(1) 5000w inverter [need]
(1) 1500w ac heater (operating 30min / hr) [have this]

The numbers check out, but is this feasible, or is there a better way to achaive my goal?
Thanks

Realistically, I would guess at MOST you would get 1.5 hours out of those two batteries. Most likely less.
You will be pulling 125A out of the batteries with a 1500W heater. And that is if the voltage stays at 12.5, which it won't. After a short time the inverter will kick out because of low voltage (probably around 10 or 11V input) and you are done.

A 10hp kicker might give you 1 amp per hour charge.

Insulate the cabin better and use a 12V heater. Have you priced a 5000 watt inverter?

Show me a 12V cabin heater that would heat even a well insulated (no widows) small cabin.

Heating with 12V is not an option.

Thanks for the quick responses.
Had an error in the op. Looking at a 3000w inverter. The kicker is rated at 2/6amp idle/3000..not like that changes much.
The 12v heater I attempted to use last season was a joke as far as heating goes...but was a high-end unit. Power hunt 12v marine heater...I could lay my hand on it with it on high.
The cabin is large, 14' deep x 7' high x 10' wide...31' uniflite Patrol Edition. It is as insulated but has 3ft tall glass..and lots of it.

Have you priced a diesel or fuel buring furnance? yikes. The inverter is chump compared tho those.

As noted by Don S, forget about an electric solution. The laws of physics are against it.

Mr. Heater by Buddy. Propane is your FRIEND, and it's safe. Not to mention cheap--90 bucks.

Propane is the normal method of keeping warm here in the winter, there are many units on the market, the one listed above works well and there are a couple of different sizes.
