1991 Johnson 200hp. When I started it up today I had a tremendous amount of smoke and a unsmooth idle. When I increased the rpms it smoked even more. It was stuttering last weekend until I got above 1000rpms, then smoothed out. I checked the firing and it is steady on all cylinders. This is probably a carb problem?? If so, what would be wrong in the carbs to cause this?? The Idle jet and the Intermediate jet are air feed, not fuel. The main jet in the bottom of the bowl is the only fuel jet. Would float adjustment or something in the bowl cause this?? any advice appreciated.

Re: Heavy Smoke at Start Up ????

Is it an oil injected motor?

Most 2 cycle motors after they sit a while, smoke due to the gasoline in the carbs evaporating. This leaves more oil than normal in the fuel mix. Premix motors smoke if the fuel is older, for the same reason.

Oil injected motors will smoke more if the gasoline side of the fuel system has a restriction of air leak. More oil is injected than is usual.
