I got my 5.5 seahorse in a cattle trough and she fired up! It was great but I noticed that she wasnt peeing.

I ran her for about 15-20 seconds. I bought an impellor today just in case and it looks like I need it.

I dropped the lower unit and she wont let go! I didnt force it cuz I knew that the linkage is attached somewhere.

Pleas someone tell me how to get the linkage to let go.

My email addy is spur1too@aol.com, if you have a pic I can figure it out.

Im so close yet soooo far. I guess I will have to use the trusty trolling motor in the morning to duck hunt :(

Thanks guys yall are awesome help. I didnt even know what an impellor was yesterday :D

There is a little acces plate held on by two screws on the side of the leg about mid-way between the powerhead and the lower unit. Sorry I can't remenber which side. Remove the cover and inside you will see a little brass shift link with two screws in it. Remove the lower screw and the l/u will come off.

Hi Spur
To disconect the shift rod you have to remove the powerhead and undo it from the top. There are some washers and a spring on the drive shaft held with a roll pin. Remove washers and spring.Take roll pin out after you get lower unit to bench. Change gear oil while yer at it,90wt hypoid. I have to get ready to hunting tomorrow myself. Good luck, be safe.

Please tell me the power head is easy to remove. There are about three different sets of different size bolts and Im hoping one set removes the thing as a comple unit with out me having to get pieces and parts everywhere.

There is no access plate on the side (I wish!) and there does not appear to be a gasket between the lower unit and the whatever the rest is called. I can see where that sucker goes I just cant get to it, uuuugggggg!

One more thing....
If I do this correctly, will the powerhead remove as a single unit and if so will I need to be concerned about lineing anything up when I replace it or parts that fall out that I wont know where they go.

If all I gotta do is take it off and do what
"ALCAN" recommended, as long as I know which bolts remove the head I can do it with a certin level of confidence. Im not a rocket scientist but I aint a dumb @$$ either

Sorry Spur I forgot. This model dosn't have a pee hole. There is however an exhaust bypass hole. You should see a little water coming out here. I check temp.by dipping a little water in my hand and drizzle it on the head, cyl. and exhaust cover. If it sizzles, too hot. If it dries quickly probably too hot,(use more accurate test). If the water just kind of sits and runs off, dries slow, good to go.Hope this helps.

There is a hole about half way up in the back side of the long part of the motor between the head and the lower unit (whats that called by the way. It is oblong shaped.

I would still like to replace the impellor, I have it might as well and it would be a good learning experience for me to see the guts of the engin. I diod expect to see water shooting out while it was running but was afraid to let it run for more than 20 seconds with out seeing some draining. It was dark out too so there may have been a trickle I didnt notice.

Ok Spur. calm down, this is duck soup. :)
There are 7 screws or bolts around the base of powerhead.Remove powerhead as unit. You will have to disconnect fuel and air line. The throtle advance rod will hang in the rubber boot a little. I am computer illiterate and type slow,(kind of like everything else I do these days)so be patient.Hey what happend to that trip to the libaray?

Well the library.......
I really should have gone I admit it. I have never been good at reading directions :D

Your help has been most welcome. To you its nothing but it means the world to me. Im 40 years old, I aint real rich or rich at all. I rode bulls for 25 years (and currently ride in the SPBR Senior Pro) and am excited to have this motor so me and my 13 year old can hit some hot spots duck and hog hunting.

I will go the library I promise. I just couldnt wait to get her going! Maybe a touch of impatiences.
