Height of cavitation plate?

Was wonderin how deep the plate above the prop should be. As of now the motor is as high as it goes n its not makin any power. I realized this q when the prop would come up because of waves the boat would gain alot of speed then jst 2 drop back down again.

The cavitation plate should be about level with the bottom of the boat

thanx 4 the reply ill give that a try. 1 more q, where would i b able 2 find the year of my motor using the model #'s.
