Helicoil in crank

I installed the bolt in for the harmonic balancer. Had problem with the mounting of a pump on the pulley and took the bolt out somehow I damaged the helicoil and I removed it.
I have the old helicoil from the old engine but cannot get it into the new block?? I see that the crank is a 1/2" fine thread and I ran a tap in and it seems fine Should I just put in a 1/2" bolt???
