I just purchased my first boat. It is a 1995 SeaRay Sundancer. 5.7 Mercruiser EFI with a Bravo III. I have VERY minimal boating experience. I am planning on docking the boat in Jersey City, New Jersey. I will be using it along the Jersey Coast for the most part. I already purchased Chapman's Piloting & Seamanship. Signed up for a boating safety class as well. Any and all advice would be appreciated. From what extras I need on board to day trip locations to maintenance tips. Told you my experience is minimal! :p Thanks to all.

Re: Hello Everyone

welcome aboard and congratulations :)
you are on the right track taking a boating course
to begin with. you should also have the entire
motor/outdrive gone over by a professional just
to make sure everything is in ship shape. then
pick up a service manual and begin to familiarize
yourself with the motor and it's maint. schedule.
lot's of great folks here willing to help with
any specific questions/problems as they arise.
oh, and don't forget the plug!
safe boating,
M.Y.

Re: Hello Everyone

Welcome aboard... Be sure you have the proper safey gear such as manual bailer and bilge pumps and flares you should be able to get the right safty gear requirments form your local Coast Guard, in some areas , be sure to have the fuel tanks topped off every time you go out and remember 1/3 tank out 1/3 to come home and 1/3 reserve, with that rule you should not run out fuel, and if fuel gauge is sloppy which most are on boats due to wave action and boats running attitude, you are compensating for that with the 1/3 rule, and maybe look into a spare set of props and the tools to change em, if you don't already have them. these are just a few items that come to mind, there are more I sure others will fill in the blanks.

safe and happy boating
cheers.

Re: Hello Everyone

on the topic of 25' searay sundancer, would anyone know why we get fresh water in the compartment under the stairs after a big rain storm?

EDIT: Do not hijack or reply to old, dead posts. JB

Re: Hello Everyone

let me be the first to welcome you, and to suggest starting a new thread instead of reviving an old thread with no lasting information or value. I think you'll then get lots of helpful replies
