Hello, new member with question

Just puchased a small boat with a 1989 Mariner 9.9 outboard. Motor ran well in the test drive. Anyways, asked owner what ratio he mixed his gas and oil and he stated 40 to 1. In asking several of my friends, they said that their motors(all 2000 or above models)mixed at 50 to 1. What is the correct mix? Also, regualr gas or premium? tia

50:1 and regular gas will work just fine.

my experience is i bought a brand new yamaha. 9.9 dealer said run it 25-1 for the first tankful then go 100-1 as manufacturer states. well i will run it 50 or 60 or even 70-1 but not 100-1. most if not all two strokes should run 50-1....ED
