I purchased a Bayliner Trophy, 17 foot, model 1710, 1988 model with the centre console. I bought a 9.9HP outboard and a good kicker bracket. But now that I went to install the bracket, it appears the back of the hull on the sides is just simply thin fibreglass and i can not mount to this. Has anyone mounted a kicker on one of these? Do I need a special Kicker or would I have to run some wood on the inside? Any help would be appreciated.

Even though I'm not all that familiar with your boat I'd be really tempted to do the plywood - or aluminum - backing that you mentioned.
I know a 9.9 is not a powerhouse but there will still be some added stress and strain that you should avoid if possible. My $.02 :D

Thanks. The port side I can not even access, so it is looking like I will have to mount on the starboard side where at least I can access the inside. There is about 2 feet of clearance in the hole I can access. Would you recommend just putting as big of a piece of plywood as I can fi in there...drill through the hull and plywood and mount...or is there any other special tricks?
