Re: HELP 26 islander transom removal

Welcome aboard, Ruger. Is this an I/O or outboard? I'm guessing a 26 footer is an I/O. As said earlier, some pics would help. Because some of the larger Starcraft tinnies use a little bit different transom arrangement than others. The main reason for some pics is because we like 'em. The 26 footer is like the Holy Grail of Starcrafts. We'll help you out as much as we can.

My son and I just pulled the transom out of our 22' islander tonight. I couldn't bend the top gunwhale either. We ground the rivet heads off and just pulled it off. Still had to bend the two sides to clear the outer ends of the old transom. The two angle brackets on the top corners, we just drilled out the rivets and pulled the transom with the two small brackets attached. The gunwhale will have to be painted before I install it. Not sure what to use to attach it yet, any suggestions?

Re: HELP 26 islander transom removal

Welcome, tinindian. You oughta start a thread on your Islander with some pics. Then most ( sometimes we get off track accidentally) of the answers will related to your resto. There have a few changes over the years so pics help a lot.

Thanks. I will post photos of the project soon. Ordered the marine grade plywood today and outdrive/gimble bearings, seals, water pump, gaskets, etc.

Re: HELP 26 islander transom removal

Looks like the rot is attributed to the pour in foam.
I will start a new thread when I get some free time to sit down and orginize all my photos in order.
