I have a 1999 Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke. On the water last weekend ,planing along nicely . All of a sudden I loss power ,would only rpm at 3500 .I just had the motor service in the fall of last year.Fuel tank drained and fresh gas put in.New plugs, new fuel filter.Motor fires up everytime,in nuetrall it will rev to 6500 but in gear will only hit 3500.
My partner has a 50hp same year merc,he has spent $800.00 on electronics for it .It lasted his fishing trip 2 weeks and it is doing the same thing.
I have been a 2 cycle man for years and a friend had me change to a 4 stroke for fuel economy, and noise.
Any Ides?
yesterday put the leg in the barrel fired the motor.came to life instantly.Pulled the 1 and 4 th plug wire off .have spark but the motor does not change stiill runs smothly.Put the plug wires back on and threw it into gear full ahead the tack showed 60000 rpm back to full power.
I am thinking that the stator is getting hot and shutting down after app 1.5 hrs( hence the lost rpm) Does this make sense to anyone out there?
I have ordered a stator for the engine.I am hoping this takes care of the problemNot cheap to find out$400.00 non refundable.
Does anyone know if there is a upgrade for the wax coated Staor on this engine? Is there a difference between a fresh water and a slat water outboard?
