Also, How can I indentify what engine I have? I think that the engine may not be the engine it is registered to be because it doesnt have a breaker point ignition.

Hi Scorpionhand<br /><br />Its not uncommon to see someone changed the old type ignition to new CDI. On many models they bolt right on, if you can get one from a wrecked motor. On one of the frost plugs it has the model numer stamped. Try to compare to the number on the bracket. If your still in doubt - post both numbers here. It can be hard to repair motors like that ( if thats the case ) as you have to order parts from several vintages !

The Power head number is 386399 RPH<br />Mounting Braket ES3646128 (Transom Clamp)

Scorpionhand.... The 1972 50hp Johnson is a engine that incorporates solid state electronic ignition. It does not have ignition points.
