Do a link and sync as per the sticky at the front of the forum, I had a 100hp 79 model, the throttle in neutral does not travel far, only enough to get a high idle rev. I would suggest you get a manual, it is the easiest way to resolve problems and it also helps you set your motor up properly, as you can be panicking about something that is supposed to work like it does. You don't get full range with your throttle in the neutral locked position, you are lucky if it moves 1/4 to 1/2 of the throttle. Sounds more likely your motor isn't set up correctly with it's correct idling positions so do a link and sync via Frank Acampora's stcky, he also has a video on youtube.
Do all that and then let us know how you go from there. Have you changed out the plugs and also checked your spark on each cylinder. May be possible it is running on 3 cylinders instead of 4, just check everything, spark, fule but Firstly compression.

O so I got about 140 compression on each cylinder got spark on all plugs fuel is fine got linkage adjusted to where there's a
Little throttle in neutral about a 1/4 inch gap between stop and shafts goes into gear runs pretty good full throttle
But it back fires and sputter a Lil while idling and dies when you back off throttle in gear and electric choke won't engage
I have a manual but it doesn't say what gives shoe solenoid power and diagram only shows green wire from key switch to bus bar on engine and back to solenoid but it doesn't engaged when you turn the key i red jumping a hot ignition wire and it in aged so I put a on off toggle to try n manual choke but it melted inside of solenoid luckily I have a spare motor for parts but I'm dumbfounded as to what makes th choke in gage and why it's still spitting n sputtering at idle. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

Ok firstly you should only choke once and if it doesn't start with a choke and it coughs, start again without choke. If it isn't idling properly it is either due to you not having your carbies set up correctly with your air mixture screw, or there is rubbish in your carbie.
The choke is operated normally by pushing the key in, you will hear your choke click in, but even better have your cowl off so you can see it engage, if you are still having choke problems it could explain hard starting, when you get it going let it warm up before going back to normal idle, just let it idle a bit faster to warm up and then see if it will idle after warm. If it doesn't it will indicate that you may have a low idle carbie problem, I would suggest you look at Frank Acampora's Link and sync sticky and he has a youtube video as well. Your carbies may either need cleaning or just setting properly.
