Help!! 79 Johnson 35hp Water Problems

I HAVE A 1979 JOHNSON SEA HORSE 35 HP I HAVE REPLACED THE IMPELLER 2 TIMES NOW AND WHEN I TRY TO START THE MOTOR I HAVE GOOD WATER FLOW OUT OF THE PEE HOLE BUT AS SOON AS THE ENGINE TRYS TO START THE WATER STOPS AND WHEN THE WATER COMPLETELY STOPS THE ENGINE WILL START AND IDLE BUT AT THAT POINT I HAVE NO WATER GOING THROUGH THE ENGINE THEN I SHUT IT DOWN AND TRY TO RE CRANK AND IT WILL TURN OVER FOR A LONG TIME AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAVE WATER AGAIN AT THE PEE HOLE AND WE REPETE THE PROCESS IT IS LIKE SOMEONE IS TURNING THE WATER VALVE ON AND OFF PLAYING A TRICK . CAN ANYBODY HELP ME ON THIS ONE

1st please loose the caps, hard to read, and considered shouting.

i would remove the tale tell hose at the block, and watch it , clean out the hose. it this doe not cure it. i would replace the tstat and poppet valve, it is in an easy position at the top of the water jacket. while there i would flush the motor thru the tstate opening, to the lower unit and thru the head. you need the tstat kit, poppet valve, and water jacket gasket.

sorry about all caps was not paying attention so do i have to pull the motor off to get to the thermostat and popet valve or is it located behind the flat cover plate where the tale tale line comes off the side of the engine
