just had the engine overhauled... new stats, water pump, carbs, cables, plugs wire, fuel lines.... compression is good. temp rises very high after 20 mins of running it at wot. engine bogges down and starts to clatter then the alarm goes off. water is flowing out the discharge and is not hot by any means.... anybodyt have and suggestions???

if i drop the RPMS down to 3800 and just left it runs she cools down in like 45 secs or so .. right back to operating temp.. this is so confusing

fishhunter,

Did you break it in properly? It may be very "tight".

fishhunter,

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. No, no need for break in.

JKW, may have a very good point.

that is a good point.... only question is how do i check it.. supposedly the mechanic who did all the work check that.... but who knows... .when i picked it up one fuel line was leaking.. so he could have messed the spark advance up too

You may be running to lean. I have read that running to lean will make the eingine overheat.

Re: help!!!! 90 hp johnson overheating... new stats and water pump

it was running but not at full power.... it NEVER overheated before this weekend.... he stated the stats were stuck open..... so it never got hot at all... they tested everything while it was there.. the water pump,impeller... hoses all that stuff.... I called him today and told him what happened he said "umm, well i dont know why that would have happened" needless to say i kinda flipped I will keep updating what happens... I am taken the boat to him this afternoon to have him tear it down in front of me... good thing i paid with a credit card.... gotta love those charge disputes

60 degree or 90 degree engine? If 90 degree engine check the water deflectors under the head, pressure relief valves, and o-ring under impeller cup. Timing?

does your receipt have everthing they checked in writing. NEVER walk away from the shop until they have itemized everything they did and the results thereof on the work order. if it's not in writing then it's your word against their's. hope this shop has a good reputation for standing behind their work.

good luck! your gonna need it.

Re: help!!!! 90 hp johnson overheating... new stats and water pump

yeh I have it all in writting and they state they are willing to work with me...... I told them the only way i will be satisfied is if they put a new power head on at no charge.. he said we can see what we can do.... they are supposedly very reputible.. but i dont know... i did see a 2000 boat with a 2000 johnson 90 on it.. told him to swap them out.. and fix the one they broke and put it on that boat... he kinda snickered.

threw in the big "LAWYER" word too... he got kinda nervous after that... will see what happens and let ya know.. should hear something tomorrow. ;)
