Hi, I just bought a used boat proline center with a 200 merc. I don't know much about this engine. It appears to be carbed but I have not gotten it home yet. Could you folk tell me what i've got here. Is it oil injected? I saw what appears to be a tank. It sounds good while test running. I didn't see anywater peeing out the back though( maybe wasp clogged the pee hole? Is this motor fair on gas milage comparing to my old 175 johnson 88 model? Thanks people
Tim :p

I have a pair 93 200's. How long did you run it? It takes awhile for the thermostats to open before it starts to pee. Mine may take a minute or two.
It may be oil injected. Mine were but I had them disconnected because I don't trust them when the motors are that old.
If you decide to buy this boat I would do a compression check. Should be no less than 10% difference between cylinders. Compression should be about 120psi(+or-). Also check the lower unit for water. Look at the oil from the bottom plug it should look clean. Not milky or dark. If everything checks out I would replace the following: Spark plugs, Poppet gasket, Thermostats, Water pump, and lower unit oil.

Re: help 92 mercury 200

thanks captain Knot, Ummm what is this poppet valve I keep reading about? A problem is the tilt now. I t wont go up or down. released the release screw and got it to go down. A solenoid is clicking. I suspect maybe corrosion on the wiring near the head. I will check there. I just bought the book. I figured it out it's not oil injected (whew) I will check the compression and check lower unit oil ect. Thanks :)

If you want to check to see if the trim motor is good, disconnect the blue or green wires off one of the solenoids and touch it to the red and you should hear the motor run. I just had to replace one of my trim motors and it was pain. It is hard to get to the back screw on the trim motor. Hopefully it is a bad solenoid. GOOD LUCK!!

The poppet is on the starboard side down at the bottom. You will see a hose going to it and I believe it has 2 bolts holding it. You will have to remove the bottom cowling to get to it.
