HELP 97 volvo 5.7 can not time

Hi new to sight installed new motor can not get timing to go below 22dg it is supposed to be around 8dg have the shunt tool but when i disconect the 4 prong plug on the dist the motor dies can anyone help me PLEASE thanks DZ

index the balancer. use a small screwdriver and manually rotate the engine until you get the piston at TDC. make sure the mark on the balancer argees with your piston motion. not looking for extreme accuracy just need to see if the balaner has slipped.<br /> is this motor EFI or carbed? and I assume its the delco EST ign.

See your other post Dave, in it rodbolt explained how to put your engine into base timing mode. No shunt on your TBI engine.

but it does explain why it dies when you unplug the dist 4 wire connector

yes it fuel injected and has the EST dist 2 plugs on back of dist
