Hi All- I wanted to follow up with you all- since i received so much help. As some may recall, I bought a used boat and shortly after (but just before a planned vacation) found that the gimbal ring was cracked through at one of the trim sensors.

Below is a link to the original thread -with pics etc. Unfortunately the thread is locked (does this automatically happen??) so I can't post the update there.

Well it's been a fast month and a half or so. After finding out how much a new part and labor to do the work was going to cost (not to mention the fact that no one could touch it for 3+ weeks) I opted to do the work myself.

I bought a used ring from Mike's alpha's, got the through transom wrench kit from JR Marine and got to work. I had about 10 days from the time I discovered the crack to the point that I was supposed to leave for the lake (which was the whole reason I bought the boat of course). After spending a couple days researching, taking things apart to figure out what else I needed etc. I ordered things (tools and parts). Once things arrived, it was a bit of a race as I only had about 4 days to get things back together (note that I've never owned a boat much less see the working end disassembled)

I'm glad to say that after over a month in the water- and running $250 in gas through it, the boat worked flawlessly. No water leaking anywhere or other related mechanical issues.

I really learned a lot along the way and appreciate all your help. I'm excited to be a boat owner and look forward to following this forum in the future.

Howdy,

I think your original thread was locked because it was SERIOUSLY hijacked and diverged into a multiple (or no particular) subjects "thread" ........

The whole point of staying "on topic" makes it so someone with a similar problem can do a search find your thread. When you have multiple subjects in a thread it makes the search nearly useless...... runs up the the thread count on the board.....Uses more memory/bandwidth etc.....

This is why the moderators will ask usually people not to tag along (and open a new thread) with different questions/topics on a given thread.

That seems to happen more than once in a while (or a LOT!!) around here!!

Glad you got it fixed and was able to use it on time!!

regards,

Rick
