I have a 1996 Johnson 112 SPL and I notice that there appeas to be some dark (black) oil that has dripped out of the exhaust port and down the skeg.

This appeard after I ran the engine for about 10 minutes a week ago and then pulled if from the water. Could something have frozen and cracked in the engine block? or could this be normal?

Thanks, Matt

It is quite normal, when motor doesnt get up to operation temp, mainly in colder weather, the combustion will leave unburned twostrokeoil, blended with soot from burning gas, you get the black oil.

G Dane is probably right on the button. But you might want to check your gearlube. If it is gearlube, the only way the leakage could be black is if the gearlube is also black. If the gearlube is clean, it can't be the source.
