Hello Fellow Boat Lovers,
I just recently bought a '71 Imperial Aztec 21' boat, runs great, ready to go. Problem is, before I brought it home I needed to clear out a place to park it so I left it parked at a girlfriends house for a couple days. Then she decided it needed to be moved a few feet and tried to do it herself but failed to raise the stern drive, and broke off the Tilt Quadrant. (I believe that's what its called, correct me if I'm wrong) What can I do to fix this and, in the meantime, can I still go fishing? (i.e. is it still usable?) This is my first boat so I'm new at this. Thank you.IMG_20210414_160451_4.jpgIMG_20210414_160438_0.jpgIMG_20210414_160729_6.jpgIMG_20210414_160532_0.jpg

Split the casting right out.. Gonna be tough but a good welder is your only option short of replacing the broken castings entirely. Hopefully you did a water test and you can verify that drive is worth repair. Parts are for the most part NLA with used being able to be found. I think that is old enough to have electric shift which is even worse

When you remove the drive clean the surfaces where the saddle caps are mounted to the intermediate housing. Get a piece of plate glass that is wide enough to contact both sides of the mounting surfaces. If the plate fits with even contact on all surfaces then you just need another gear case. If the plate can be rocked and not touching the surfaces evenly then the intermediate is also destroyed. If you try to use it like that the ball gears will not last and will flare out and slip to the point the boat just stops.
