:confused:Hello Everyone, I am in the process of buying a 1976 18' Steury model 8 180 jet, it has a 200 HP Evinrude outboard engine. The motor sounds strong and starts right up the head gaskets have been replaced about a year ago and has great compression. The boat itself is in good shape for the age, sure there is some wear but nothing that a little TLC can't fix. I have tried to look up the boat on the internet but can't find anything out about this boat. can anyone help me out? I just never heard of a Steury before and this being my first boat any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You all! Wally Belvidere, IL.:)

I've heard of the name before, but don't really know 'em....

Pull the backseat, 'n poke around lookin' for Rot...
Check the Transom, 'n the Stringers real good....

Near as I can tell last year for Steury was 81.NADA charts only go back to 77.
Being out of business doesn't mean much on a 35 year old boat.I think they were around in the 50s making wood boats. Some companies didn't make the transition from wood very well.
Probably a good sign they made it to 81.

Thanks!, I checked behind the seat and it looks to be fiberglass and no cracks, very clean back by the gas tanks.
No sigins of rot, even the plywood that back the seat covers shoed age but no rot. Thanks again for the help!!!

I know it's hard without seeing it but you would say it would be safe to buy as far as parts and anything mechanical
that could go wrong. Thanks!

There is a Steury forum near the bottom of the previous page. Also a small piece on fiberglassics.com in the glassic Libary icon.
