Help can't find this part - 1971 60hp shift diode

According to the service manual to my 1971 60hp johnson service manual, the 'shift diode' is bad. It looks like something that was dipped into liquid plastic with 3 wires coming out of it - yellow, yellow/grey stripe and purple/green stripe.

The diode is shorted open. Anyone know an oem part number or similar? Is there anything I can substitute for this little piece?

I searched under Johnson parts here but what it found looked to only have 2 wires and the connectors seemed wrong? The connectors are small eyelet type connecting to the power block with the stator and rectifiers.

Any help is welcome!
Thanks

383840 is about $80 from a dealer. Radio Shack 276-1661 is $2.49 each (you'll need two).

Re: Help can't find this part - 1971 60hp shift diode

I was wondering if I could wire up my own diode!

I wish I saw this before I ordered one. I'm in Canada and we don't have Radio Shack anymore (unfortunate!!). If you have the specs on the diodes I can probably find the matching specs in another store.

I will try and cancel the order where I found it for $55 (was a special order to boot).

Ok, did some searching and found its a 6A 50V rectifier diode.

Is there a schematic or similar to provide me with the wiring? I can try and tear off the hard plastic cover to the one I have - that might give it to me.

Thanks!

Re: Help can't find this part - 1971 60hp shift diode

Based on what I can see from the schematic I have available (which isn't that clear) it seems the diodes should be wired with the yellow/gray on the neg side of one diode, the purp/green (I think it is) on the other neg side of the diode - the two positive ends of the diode connected together to the yellow wire.

Am I correct in my assumption here? Someone please confirm!

Thanks

Off topic, but yet not.......does anyone know the specs for the blocking diode in the control box for these motors?
