Ok, I have a 1999 Harris Kayot Potoon boat, 24ft. I just installed a new battery. Heres my problem. When I turn the key, nothing the engine doesn't make a sound. all the aux lighting and stereo works fine, all gauges are working fine. Just the trim and motor doesn't work. I cannot locate a fuse box but was told not all potoons have them. I am a first time boat owner and have no clue so any advice would help a great deal. Thanks

By the way the moter is an Yamaha 75hp outboard.

Welcome to iboats!

A boat generally has two distinct electrical systems: the motor system (which includes the tilt/trim and the gauges) and the accessory system (which includes everything else). Right now, the latter system is apparently working. Are the thick cables running directly to the outboard hooked up? Look under the cowl of the outboard. Is there a circuit breaker under there somewhere?

+1 on the engine circuit breaker. Look for a red reset button and push it.

This is not likely an engine fuse or engine breaker issue since he says the gauges work. Gauges are generally powered through the engine harness ("A" terminal on the ignition switch). They do not get power from the boat harness which feeds the fuse panel. It may be possible there are two fuses or breakers at the engine. So verify that.

Re: Help!! Can't get my boat to start.

I recently looked at a friends boat with a mercury (force) 40 on it. The tilt/trim and starter didnt work. I found the pins in the wire harness plug under motor cowling werent making good connection. Pulled the plug, sqeezed the pins (lightly) and hooked it back up an everything has worked fine since. Not sure if this is your solution but it might be worth checking. Good luck!
