Re: Help choosing correct ignition switch

Terminals are marked as: B (battery), A OR I (accessory or ignition), S (solenoid), C (choke), M (Magneto), M (Magneto).

It should simply be a matter of changing wires from one switch to another. However, if you've removed the wires without marking them.... what are the colors of the wires?

My mistake. The switch has 6 terminals, but I'm only using 5. Wire colors are: Red, White, Blue/White, Black and Black. The Red wire is much thicker than the rest. It's the one that broke off. The markings are not legible anymore.

I do believe this to be the original wiring harness.

Red, White, Blue/White, Black and Black

Red = "B" terminal
White = "S" terminal
Black = "M" terminal
Black = "M" Terminal (The Other One)
Purple/White = "C" Terminal

Blue/White = ?
Trace this wire back to see where it goes. What component does it lead to?

Is it possible that you are mistaken about the color of this wire? A "Blue/White" wire is usually ignition related and you DO NOT want any battery voltage being applied to it.

BUT if the wire is instead "Purple/White, that would be a electric choke related wire and would connect to the "C" terminal. CAUTION... 12v applied when key is pushed in.

My mistake. That wire is indeed Purple/White. It was faded from the sun. I had to strip a little of the outer cable sheath to see it. It does go to the electric choke.

So , what I need is a 3 position switch, 5 terminal with push to choke right?

Re: Help choosing correct ignition switch

No...... Purchase the six (6) terminal ignition switch that has the push to choke feature, part # 508180.

The sixth (6th) terminal, although you may not be using it right now would be the "A" or "I" terminal (however it might be lettered) and would have 12 volts applied to it whenever the key is in the RUN or START position. This terminal would be needed for any accessory (tachometer etc) that requires 12 volts when the key is turned on.
