Help! Click click 3.0 mercuriser

Hey there, thanks for reading hope you guys could be some help.
I have a click click noise (not valve train) from the lower rear portion of the motor near transom behind oil pan. It sounds almost like its coming from transom but i cant hear anything in the leg itself. You can feel vibraton it sends out in floor of the boat. Its eratic a few ticks ever 10 seconds or so. I didnt notice any bad u joints when i replaced impeler a few months ago. The noise has been around before that but i figured its time to get it sorted out. I have a video on my phone but i couldnt figure out how to upload will follow with one once i get it figured. Hopfully someone has some ideas.

Take the drive off and run the engine. To do it you put a garden hose where the water goes into the bellhousing. If it still does it you know for sure it coming from the engine itself.

Thanks for the quick reply was hoping someone could narrow it down a little more but i guess its one of those things when the rain goes away ill pull it if no one else has any ideas. Thx!

I'd pull the drive - literally a ten minute job plus a gasket. Could be a loose coupler - be nice to know before something explodes outside walking distance from your trailer.

Figured i should end this post with the fix. It turned out to be exaust shutters flaping . The rubber melted off them but didnt fall off yet. So it made a metalic sound in the elbow thx again for replys!
