Ran a Compression test today

Ran it two ways

Boat will not start

Plugs good and wet with gas.

Plugs out

124 126 129

#1 plug out other two in

30 lbs on number one cylinder.

Starter really seems to be dragging with the plugs in.

Battery is tested good and has 100% charge.

Hot lead directly on starter.

Starter spins good and fast without any resistance on it.

Will not spin flywheel fast enough with plugs in motor.

Would this equate to possibly bad starter what else could be wrong.

1972 Evinrude 65hp electric shift.

Just got this motor and one thing I noticed is there is a heavy black oil on the top of the engine underneath the flywheel. Why would that be there its a two stroke the only thing I can think of is previous owner spilled oil on it.

Re: Help Compression Results

sounds like the starter is weak its happens..

that oil under the fly wheel sound like a problem id make sure thats the seal is not bad if it has points... your compression great for a 2 stroke...

sounds like spark to me for a no run..

Well the starter is good and strong. Bad solenoid switch though the hot lead I was using wasn't strong enough. I hit it with a battery cable and that motor sprung to life in about 1 second.
