Hey, I have a 84 Merc 150. Recently it started steaming badly about 3000 rpms and appears to be getting severely hot. The impeller is new as well as the t-stats. What else is there? Help!

Also, the previous impeller exploded. I am concerned about cloggage. Is there a way to back flush the cooling system? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Re: Help! Cooling problems.

Parts of the impeller could be stuck anywhere in the cooling system. I would start by checking under the water jacket on the outside of the head. You will need the change the gasket and re-torque. There could also be an obstruction behind the heads, under the exhaust manifold, or in the hoses that go to the termostats, and tell tale. If you got the motor to hot you may need to change the impeller again. Good luck and let us know.
CU
