Re: Help deciding on a name
Depends on your background story.
Boat names either have to be obvious, or have an 'ice breaker', 'conversation piece', good background story.
So, what's yours?
Personally, I like "Toontime", for whatever reason you have. ("N-DEBT has negative connotations. Most boat owners don't need to be reminded of how "Indebted" they are!!) Plus, naming a boat "N-DEBT" is kinda like naming a boat "Floaty". Kinda redundant!
On the other hand, if "N-DEBT" needs a new GPS or something, the wife may be more inclined to agree for "her" boat!
Rethinking this, DEFINITELY name the boat "N-DEBT" or "WHATEVERMYWIFEWANTS". It'll bring you more manly boat-owner luck. Seriously.
I think the best thing is to try to get her to think of (or for you to suggest) another name, something more personal, so she'll feel some 'ownership' of the boat, without being reminded of the cost. Suppose her name is "Susy". Suggest "Susy's Dream", or something that will give her a bit of pride of ownership, without CONSTANTLY reminding her of cost of ownership. "Susy's Paradise", "Susy's Sanctuary", "Family Time", "Hot Wife", something like that. The name may look dorky to you, but you will thank me. No way she'll want to get rid of ""Susy's Dream" for something as mundane as finances. This is WAY more important than you may now realize.
You got the boat - Let her have the name. If the crew ain't happy, nobody's happy.
