Hi everyone, im new to boating, and have a few questions about a boat i stumbled across. It is a 1969 steury boat, with a "40 evinrude" powerplant. It also comes with a trailer, and supposedly only needs a solenoid to get going. What can i expect with this boat? What would you reccommend i do? Im on a fairly tight budget with college and all, but hes only asking 500 for the whole shebang. what am i getting myself into? Whats your advice? Thanks a lot in advance!

If the boat has been sitting alot the motor may need a lot of fuel system work, an impeller change and gear lube change and if the gearlube is milky
you may need to change the seals. All this can be done if you are mechanically inclined but you should have a service manual before anything else. You may find an after market manual for 15 or 20 dollars. The properly cared for Evinrude is a fine motor and almost bullet proof. And relatively easy to work on.Look the boat over carefully check the transom and floor for rot.
The bottom should be relatively straight with no unusual contours.,

JB, What kind of advice is that to give to someone wanting to get into boating? You having a bad day or something? I've bought cheap boats many times that are safe and good running.
