i cant seem to get the shifter rod disconnected from the linkage the rod in buried under the motor and seems to be a small pin holding it in there neither side has a bolt head as if it was screw in looks to have to tap it out with a screw driver....either way i tried and the linkage i think is plastic and im not looking to damage it is there a easier way to get this out or am i doing something wrong....

remove starter and lower carb. there are several different connectors, some you have to unscrew the pin, some you remove a cotter pin on starboard side, and slide the shift rod over to release linkage.

Photo of general area and a close up would most likely help.

as i said before, there are several different types of connections, but none you just tap out. they changed by horsepower and year.
