hey guys i have been calling a few prop places and not getting many answers.. let me give you the detail and see if anyone has some good recommendations. first off the boat is a 91 celebirty 190. all new stringers. new motor mounts new floor. rebuild alpha 1 with a 1.50 gear ratio. new vortec 350 with comp marine 270 cam and quadrajet carb. boat also has the nauticus smart tabs with 40 lb shocks.. three props i have used on this boat for testing.. first was a high 5 23 pitch. it ran up to 55mph but was nose diving and dangerous..so its out...next is a mirage 14.3/4 diameter 21 pitch boat runs 4600rpm wot 57 mph not bad but needs to turn a little more rpm. the next was an appollo 14.1/8 19 pitch turned 5100 rpm at 57mph. i like the lower rpm cruising speed with the 21 pitch but i think it needs to turn a few more rpm a wot.. what would be my options . could i find a 21 pitch smaller diameter that would gain those needed rpms or a different type of blade design . or am i stuck with the 19p. keep in mind both of these props have some damage the appollo seems like it may be slightly bent so either way i have to purchase a new one just want to get the best choice.
Hi. I’m finding this particularly interesting. Some of your specs will be quite close to mine. Does that hull have any performance character to it ? Can’t quite exactly think it has or not.
anyway. I’ve likely got around 300-310hp at a guess. 1.47 ratio alpha. 18ft stepped hull and pad bowrider. She’s heavy though. Around 1400-1500 kgs depending on load and fuel.
ive exhausted myself trying props on her. There is no perfect prop, I’ve found for this set up. Here is rough details and findings for mine anyway.
Best all round so far is either a 19” enertia, 19” tempest plus or lighter a 20” enertia. For out and out top end speed, it’s between a 21” ballistic or a 21” enertia. But both are pretty poor just about everywhere else in the rpm range and the ballistic in particular was a complete hit or miss most times. Very poor for acceleration. Most times the 21” props were probably slower or no faster than the 19 and certainly the 20” enertia. Just on that very rare occasion when things aligned perfectly, would the 21” be recording the quickest she’s been.
the props you are trying aren’t too clever for your set up, I’d suggest. Certainly not the high 5 for sure.
some numbers from memory at least. I’ve them written down somewhere if you need true accuracy.
21” enertia could occasionally see 5100 rpm at around 66/67 mph gps. 21” ballistic certainly saw 67 at least once and alarmed the limiter at 5150ish.
19” tempest plus saw early 60’s easy. Every time and anytime on the limiter. Same for 19” enertia, but tempest way better for cruising and efficiency cruising. 20” enertia into the 60’s and running light would be on the limiter easy enough.
19” laser 2 was on the limiter way too fast and around late 50’s maybe 60. Can’t remember it getting a genuine 60 for sure.
that’s what I remember just now anyway. If you need exact numbers…I’ll look them out. My hull may be a little different from yours perhaps. But some info for you, none the less.
