Hello all,

Well, running out of ideas to try and make this thing run better I came across one of Franks posts about cleaning the recirculation system. This thing has been loading up during long no wake zones and dying while putting it in gear. Idled it up first but that seemed like just a "patch" on what wasn't right.

Took off both recirc. covers and noticed the top one was leaking oil (which I assume if leaking it can also suck some air), as well and one of the side cylinder covers was loose and leaking oil and actually missing a bolt. The recirc. one way valves were working properly but the screens were darn near plugged up. Cleaned the system, sealed it up tight and ran it on the muffs for at least 30min. and it never tried to load up. Actually had to turn the idle down 300-500rpm after cleaning the system.

Took it to the lake this evening and went through the long no wake zone. Got to the end and just nailed it. That thing jumped up on plane and revved right up to 5400rpm at 44-45mph! I was tickled that I finally figured out what was wrong with this motor. I had to lower the idle rpm and picked up about 200rpm and 2-3mph on top end! I could live with that!!

Well, it wouldn't last long. Made a WOT run of approx 4-5 miles then pulled off into a channel, down to trolling speed, and it was just a missing and smoking. Pulled it to neutral and it died. Had to raise the idle RPM back up to keep it from dying and WOT runs from that point on were 5100-5200rpm at 41-42mph.

Does anyone have any ideas what happened? Do you think the screens plugged back up in such a short time? I decarbed the motor a week ago and its been run WOT several times now to where I would think that shouldn't be causing it. Changed plugs out on the water to new ones but the old ones looked good. It has to be something with that recirculation system I'm thinking but would like to hear suggestions before breaking back into it.

Thanks, James

i dont know if this might help but i had a hard time getting mine in plane and after a lonng and miseable time of cussing and getting stranded 5 times in themiddle of the lake (luckly i carry a paddle) i found out that after raising my motor for to long the bottom carb would flood out and all i had to do was drain that carb before starting it up and then it would take off ..maby something like that is happening ...but once i do that it runs fine untill the next time:confused:
