Hey guys,

Just looking for some help with this hatch lift.

The Boat is an 89 Scarab and I assume this is an original part.

The part looks very similar to the attached picture.

the motor works fine and when it is out of the boat and fired on a battery the pole part "spins" fine. when in the boat it wants to work but seems to bind.

I guess my question is how does this thing work? Is it a screw type? I took everything apart and lubed everything but the same problem is there.

I need to look at it again but Im just wondering if it is possible to take it apart and lube up the internal screw part?

Thanks for the help.

motor is driving a cog that turns the screw nut. if thats moving then it might be time to buy another one. proberly another 100 bucks to throw into the money pit plus once you find a replacement you can have a real go at fixing that one as its broken you cant break it any worse

all electric cylinders are nothing more than an acme screw turning on a bearing driven by plastic or powder metal gears spun by an electric motor. some have limit switches, some dont. some have position feedback, some dont. usually the low end stuff bought for marine use is the light duty stuff with a plastic traveling nut and plastic gears. usually the nut strips out, or the lower gears strip out.

Warner, Nook, Tolomatic, Parker, Duff-Norton etc. all make similar products.

they are usually ordered in 2" increments. spend the $130 and get a new one.

Fixed!

I managed to free up the tube that covers the worm gear and cleaned all of the old gunky grease off with gasoline. Then I lightly oiled up the screw...works like a top now!!
