I got me an used riding mower. The previous owner tells me that the guy that had it before him (yeah, right) needed to clean the gas tank and instead of taking it out it made a hole in the tank in order to clean it so he pushes the seat up and go at it... See picture bellow..
Someone tried to seal it with jb weld and it did not work. The tank also has the tank cap cover missing... Rain comes and gets in the tank... Someone tries to mow the lawn with such mix.... Mower wont work... I get mover cheap!!! ;-) He assured me they did not tried to ever start the mower after water got it, however, I had a carb full of gas/water junk. After about an hour of taking the carb apart, cleaning it with carb cleaner (did not even used the deep cleaner) and put it together the mower started and run great at all settings. I used a tank from the old mower just to try it and ride/mow a bit and it worked but is not safe. It does have an issue with one of the blades but I think I can figure it out, if not I will post here..
Anyway, what can I use to fix that hole? They sell this plastic welding sticks in Harbor Freights. I could fill the tank with water to keep any fumes left to bare minimum and use my propane torch to fix it that way but I have never used it before so I dont know if it is effective. Maybe I can use some fiberglass? Any ideas? I already have to pay $20 for the tank cap and I am trying not to pay the almost $80.00 for the tank.
