help - fuel filter insert replacement

This is my first post, hopefully it makes sense.
I am working on a 2000 volvo penta 3.0 GS MEFS. The fuel filter is located under the fuel pump, being held in place by a vertical bolt screwed through a strap. I can loosen the bolt, but I can not loose the cup nor the strap. How do I get to the filter????
