Okay all need some help. Seems someone likes my fuel or tried to like my fuel. Any how they left the gas cap off and I know it was on 2 weeks ago. Since then I have had about 2 to 3 inch of rain here. I use marine stabile every time I put gas in her. I have a water separator installed with spar filters on board.

How much water do you folks think got into my fuel system?
Should I drain it?

What should I do?

Copied from a previous, similar post:

Re: Good amount of water in gas - how best to deal with it?

Assuming a built in tank with the pickup in the aft end:

Elevate the bow and allow the fuel to settle for at least a day. Remove the fuel sender/pickup and siphon the bulk of the water from the aft/bottom of the tank. Reassemble and install your water separator. With the bow still elevated, run the engine for several minute intervals, changing filters between runs. Empty used filters in clear containers to check for water content. Continue reusing the filters until water is at a minimum. Install a new filter and go boating.

You actually may not have that much water in the tank depending on the angle of the fill and if water can run into the hole, it will be worse. I would just siphon some from the bottom like others have mentioned.

Assuming 3" of rain in a 2" circular opening, that would be about .04 gallons (5.2 ounces) or about 2/3 of a cup (basically the volume of a cylinder 2" in diameter and 3" long). It could be more if water can run into the opening from other places. It could be less if the opening is at an angle or partially covered.

your math seems correct but do you consider going boating with mixed fuel... its partially dangerous..

Curious where you think he stated to go boating with mixed fuel.

9 gallons of E-10 gas will absorb the 5.2 oz of water without a problem.
You would never know it was there.

Take new filters and some fresh gas and take the boat for a run .if boat starts to have a problem change filters with fresh gas .
