New to Forum. Need Help
I have a 1984 Invader 21' with an 4cyl Mercruiser Engine. The gas guage stopped working. I ran out of gas on the lake.. BAd situation... I was told it might be the sender unit and I grounded out the center terminal and the guage did nothing. I want to know what other steps I should take to diagnose problem

Sincerely, Vic

I would guess the next step to do is make sure you have power to the gauge and that you have continuity from the sender line back to gauge.

using an Ohm meter, chech the ohms when you are empty and then fill the tank ,or if it is easy to remove just do it manually (Plug the hole, vent well)

the ohms should change between empty and full (someone may know the numbers) if it does nothing/does not change... you need a new sending unit... otherwise start chasing the other wires/gauge)

Ayuh,...
You need Power to the gauge, to the sender,+ the tank must be bonded to the ground....
If it don't make the full circuit, it don't Work....

Re: HELP GAS guage not working

Here is the fuel gauge wiring again. The fuel sender should measure 33 - 240 ohms with half full being about 109 ohms. Be certain the sender wire is disconnected when making the measurement.

Re: HELP GAS guage not working

I checked the complete circuit. The sender checked ok. I will change guage and see what happens. Thanks for the help
