Help getting outboard running

I just got a 4hp murcury 40 I am not sure what year it is. The number is 3936911. It looks to be in very good shape. I was wondering what should I do before I try to start it. It was in a barn for up to 20 yrs not used.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Check the compression, if OK clean carb in solvent, replace spark plug.
Put some Sea Foam in the gas tank and let er rip

Just an additional note, when you take out the spark plug spray some Deep Sea Foam into the cylinder.

check wiring and foot oil, for water. and put new gas in it, clean fuel tank, clean carbs are no good with dirty tank.

Took the lower unit apart and the impeller is trashed. How do I get the remaining center part of the old impeller off the long shaft? also can anyone tell me what the part number is for the water pump rebuild kit. Does the kit come with all if the seals for the lower unit? I found water when I drained the old out. Thanks

Well I cut the inner part of the impeller off the shaft. I still need help with the replacemet. Thanks

how did you get the brass part off with out damaging your shaft. You can go look up on iboats parts has a tab at the top. look up water pumps for your motor.

Used a grinder and cut into 2 sides untill it was thin then used a screwdriver to finish it. I cannot find my serial number on there list? Thanks
