I think I have a water flow problem. The upper section of the motor shaft seems a little too warm, but the tlow indicator stream is good and the spray is warm. There are 2 holes (see picture) that I thought water came out of normally that does not now??? Any Honda guru's out there with an input? should water be coming out of these?

its and 8 horse.

I don't have the same engine, I have a 90 h.p., but I had a similar problem. Make sure you flush the engine out good, mine has a screw labeled "Wash" in the lower unit that I unscrewed to make sure water was flowing good. Also, try taking off the plastic piece where the stream exits, even a small piece of rock or weeds can restrict the flow and cause overheating. I disconnected my black plastic tubing to make sure I had a good stream, that was fine but sure enough, I found tiny pebbles obstructing the hole in the water outlet, I used a small wire to clean it out and Bingo, works fine now.

Good Luck

I think those are just drain holes, not part of the cooling system. Blow high pressure water or air into them to see if they improve. I had a 15 hp Honda, but don't remember those type of holes, nor on my new Honda 225.

You DO NOT want any water pouring out of those drain holes. They are only there to drain that cavity in case of spillage,overfill,submersion,rinseing,etc,etc....They have nothing to do with the cooling system of this engine. Is this engine getting hot?
