Help!!! I broke email. :( I think there is an easy fix but I don’t know what it is. I have Win 98, Outlook 2000. I accidentally deleted the address book function. Restored the address book application, now Outlook opens back up and is usable without any loss of archived email or address book info, except I can’t send/receive email. I get this message:

Internet mail is not registered properly. Please re-install and try again. (account: …)

So I deleted all the email accounts, then created a new one. Still get the same message.

(yeah, I know…will be going to a more current os soon. :) )

Suggestions???

It sounds like a registry problem. Go to Microsoft's online help and see if you can find a fix for the error essage you are getting.

Re: Help!!! I Broke Email

MS discontinued all support for Win 98 a few months ago. I'm told they took down all the techincal data from their website. I really need to update the os, but would like to get email working in the meantime.

I removed and recreated the email accounts hoping that would define the needed pop and smtp. Didn't work. Was thinking about removing the Outlook application altogether, and reloading it. Don't know if it will also delete the email folders (and email), filters, saved email address, etc. Some applications leave the data files behind when you delete them (Eudora), some don't.

Anyone know if removing the Outlook application will also remove the data files?

Found it!!! Thanks Chuck!!! It was under tech support for Outlook 2000. :)

Fwiw, problem with either inetcomm.dll version or outlmime.dll not registered. Either way, looks like a simple fix. :)

I was going to tell you to uninstall and reinstall the program.

Re: Help!!! I Broke Email

Thanks, Realgun. I am comfortable with overwriting the existing application, but not with deleting it. I don’t know if deleting the Outlook application will delete the email folders, saved msgs, accounts, filters, etc. I don’t know all the files I would need to back up. I tried to reload Outlook but the Office CD only allows the options to delete or repair if an application is already installed. I tried the ‘repair’ option but it did not help. Turns out it was the outlmimn.dll file needed to be registered; simply identify it in dos and it happens automatically.

Kind of funny, I asked everyone I knew how to fix this. Almost everyone had deleted their address book function on Win 98 and had to recover from it, too, but no one could remember how they did it. :)
