Does anyone recognize this Merc Alpha prop mounting method?
I have a 1998 Merc Alpha One Gen 2 leg and I went to remove the prop and the mounting of the prop is completely different than any manual I have ever seen. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the prop and I am a mechanic. I have attached a picture. Let me know if any of you have seen this mounting before and know how to remove the prop.

It's a prop lock. Similar to a wheel lock for a car. Somewhere there's a key for it. Good luck.

Ayuh,... Years ago, when I worked in a full service auto shop,...

Nothin' was more Frustratin' than a customer needin' service behind the wheels, or new tires,...
Then not tellin' ya where they Hid the wheel key...

Worse yet, was after rippin' the vehicle apart, 'n callin' the customer,...
The response was, "Oh, I lost that thingy"....

Glad it worked out for ya,.... ;)

I'd ditch that prop lock and put a normal prop nut on it. Unless you live in a real rough neighborhood, no one is going to pinch an aluminum prop. If it were a $400-500 stainless prop I could see having the lock nut on there, but for a $100 aluminum prop?

I personally would keep the prop lock. been at the beach in Florida and had to tow people twice as someone was stealing the props while the boats were anchored. we guessed they were using snorkels in amongst everyone swimming and no-one paid that close attention. if someone steals the prop, it doesnt matter if the prop is $100, $500, or $500000000 if you dont have it, your not going anywhere.
