I am not too familiar with Johnson outboards and I bought a advertised 85hp Johnson Javelin on the cowl but the motor as a red sticker with timing degrees and it says 1976 115hp on the aluminum air intake and the motor seems to be painted factory white. The lower unit has a stripe but I cannot make any info out on it.

A 76 powerhead would have been green.-----Is the serial # on the block the same as on the transom bracket.

I think the block serial number is 24781 but that seems short. I could be looking in the wrong spot. It's supposed to run and I paid $200 on good faith it's not a complete failure? It came with power tilt, controls and steering setup. No ignition key and there is a red wire coming off the bottom of the throttle housing that was cut. I do plan on tuneup items, carb cleaning, wire harness check and water pump rebuild and impeller.

Two places to find the model number: check for a plate on the transom bracket, and on one of the silver plugs in the top of the power Head.

My my model is J140TLCNB, yours should follow a similar formula.

J - Johnson (E = evinrude)
140 - horsepower
T - tilt and trim model
L - long shaft (20”)
CN - model year (82) count letters in the word “introduces”
B - manufacturing run.
