Help identify Johnson outboard

A friend of mine just picked up a Johnson outboard at an auction. It's going to need some parts so we need to identify it. The problem is the Mod/Serial plate is missing. All we have to go by is the serial on the freeze plug. That number is E3435191. Is there any way to identify this motor by the just the serial? Just guessing by it's appearances, it looks like it might be a 20-25hp motor from the early 80's, but that's just a guess. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Right next to the serial number on that casting plug is the model number. The year of the engine is contained inside that model number. Please post it.

I didn't see the model number on the plug but then again I was straining to read the serial since I didn't have my glasses with me. I'll take my glasses and a camera on my next trip to his house and check again. Thanks.

Somewhere between 1970 and 1972. Most likely a 1971

The model number is not on the plug.

Here are pics of both sides with and without the cover. Hopefully this is enough that someone can identify it. We don't know what year or HP rating it is.

Based on the serial number and pictures, it is a 1971.

Is there an easy way to determine whether it's a 20 or a 25hp? Something that doesn't require some major disassembly.
