I have an old 5hp Hiawatha and trying to find out if it's worth anything. Model number is 940MI-25 7972A. I think it might be a '49 or '50 but not sure because the serial number doesn't jive. Mine is 310693. My understanding is that it was either manufactured by Scott-Atwater or Gale. Can anyone help me identify and give me advice how to determine value?

I don't know what you are trying to match the serial number with. As far as I know, no serial number list exists. Want to share your source?

Nevertheless, your motor is a 1949-50, made by Gale Products Division of OMC. It is a Gale model 2H7. There were tons of them made under various brand names, but Hiawatha was one of the lower production brands. Value depends on condition and location. It is worth something, but certainly not a pot of gold.
