Hello, I picked up this engine along with another identified as a 1949 Evinrude Elto Sportster for $45.00 today. This engine is missing it's ID tag leaving me without a way to identify it. On the carb there is a # 47 stamped and on the side of the block there is a #28 stamped. Please help and thanks in advance for your responses.

Well....it's not an OMC. (Johnson or Evinrude). I would re-post this in the "Other Brand" forum. I imagine it will turn out to be an Eska or Clinton....

Interesting motor....certainly not one you see every day; eh?

What you have there, is a 4hp McCulloch. I would say mid '60's vintage. I have one of those myself.

I think in the future when I come across any engine made prior to say 1975, I'll just post Zephyr what is it. :)

You betcha. If you need anything for it, let me know. I can probably help you out finding stuff for it. I may end up parting mine out too, because my reed valves are rusted out. :(

Yea, kodibass, you should see some of the classics I've added to my collection. Just got a old Elgin 1.25hp and a friend of mine got me a 1937 ELTO Pal. I do like the motors prior to 1970. :)

Got it started today, runs great! Now i'm searching for more info such as parts lists, schematics, and pictures as i believe i'm missing a few parts mostly cosmetic.

Thanks Again,

What I would do, is get the model and serial number off of the motor and just type it into your search engine. McCulloch 4hp Model XXXXX and so on. You'll find all kinds of neat things
