Help identifying my Johnson outboard....

I have a new to me Johnson sea horse 18hp. I am inquiring the year and fuel mix ratio for this outboard. Also if anyone has any useful info on this motor it would be appreciated. Also the fuel tank and fittings are unique to any outboard I have owned. Do I need to use a special tank or will a modern poly tank be sufficient?
Thanks....

FD 13 = 1959
Fuel ratio shouldbe 24:1
You need a duel line tank, it has two lines moulded into one. It uses one line to pressurize the fuel tank and the other supplies the fuel to the engine from the pressurized tank. You can check on e-bay or with your local marine dealer, they are not cheap. You can convert the engine to a new style single line tank, do a search and you will find several posts on how to do it.

Would I still use a 24:1 if I am using TCW-III outboard oil instead of the recommended 30W.? Thanks...

Yes, GP. the 24:1 is for TC-W3 oil only.

That's BC there wasn't BIA certified oil when the motor was made. Forget 30w oil ... it hasn't been used in ouitboards for over 40 years.

Re: Help identifying my Johnson outboard....

Back when that outboard was manufactured 30W non-detergent oil was what all two strokes used. With the formulation of specific two stroke oils manufacturers switched to the new oils. Later on the BIA came out with TC-W certified oil for marine use. While you could buy and use 30W non-detergent motor oil mixed 24:1 in your outboard it will perform better with the TC-W3 mixed at 24:1.
