Hello everyone, I just got a 12' livingston with a 20hp evinrude. I was wondering if anyone can help me identify the year or model of my motor. I looked for the serial number but it is not legible. Hopefully the pictures will be clear enough for someone to help me. What I noticed between my motor and many others is the kill switch is on the side versus the front. I located the quarter size cap on the block and the numbers were R8529738. :):):)IMG_0179.jpgIMG_0178.jpgIMG_0181.jpgIMG_0183.jpgIMG_0184.jpg

90ish would be close to the money, that particular paint/decal design lasted awhile, from 89 to 93......hard to say exactly which year without that model number.

Very cool version of this generation of Evinrudes. I've never seen one with this add-on tiller arrangement; I have to find one for my stable. Based on the carb and the cover, I'd say it's an 89 or 90. The carb style was changed for 1991 and the cover had additional medallions prior to 1989. 1990 model number would be E20CRESB, 1989 model number would be E20CREM. You won't need to figure closer than that to purchase parts or manuals. My favorite motor.

Thanks for the help. So does that mean that the part numbers are the same for both 1989 and 1990. I was planning on converting to remote steer and adding a charging kit and electric start.

They should all be the same. You could always compare the part numbers by going to the iBoats part section and compare years. I have several of these motors and there have been some changes over the years that I've come to discover but not between the 89 and the 90. You can find the components to convert to electric remote, used on ebay. I've done this conversion on one of mine. If you end up removing that tiller and want to turn it into cash, give me a shout.
